Three Years Without the Landfill

Three years ago, I made a commitment to my clients and to myself. I would never send usable items from people’s homes to the landfill.

Since then, I have not taken a single load to the dump.

Everything that leaves a Morganize It project is either donated or recycled. Every single item.

What That Actually Looks Like

Decluttering does not mean throwing things away. It means finding the right next home or purpose for them.

Over the last three years, we have responsibly handled items many people assume have no option beyond the landfill, including:

  • Mattresses

  • Electronics

  • Appliances

  • Wood and building materials

  • Furniture

  • Clothing and household goods

With the right partners, planning, and systems in place, these items can be diverted from waste streams and handled properly.

It takes more effort. It takes more coordination. It takes more time.

It is worth it.

Where These Items Actually Go

This commitment is possible because of trusted local resources that make responsible disposal realistic.

We regularly take materials to CHaRM, where items like mattresses, electronics, appliances, and hard-to-recycle materials are handled properly.

We also work with Green Girl Recycling, which allows us to recycle a wide range of household items, wood, and materials that would otherwise be thrown away.

These trips take planning and time, but they are an essential part of how Morganize It operates.

Why This Matters to Me

Most homes we work in represent decades of life. These items were purchased with intention, earned with hard work, and used through meaningful seasons. Sending them straight to the landfill never felt right.

Landfills fill quickly. Perfectly usable materials are buried every day simply because disposal is easier than doing the right thing.

Organization should never create unnecessary waste.

The Behind the Scenes Work

Staying landfill free does not happen by accident. It requires:

  • Knowing what can be recycled and where

  • Building relationships with responsible recycling centers

  • Scheduling drop offs instead of quick dump runs

  • Educating clients on realistic options

  • Sorting carefully and intentionally

This approach adds layers to every project, but it aligns with how Morganize It shows up. Thoughtful decisions first.

What This Means for Clients

Clients often tell me they feel relief knowing their items are handled responsibly. Decluttering already carries emotional weight. Worrying about waste does not need to be part of it.

When you work with Morganize It, you can trust that what leaves your home is treated with care and respect.

Looking Ahead

Three years landfill free is something I am deeply proud of. It proves that sustainable decluttering is possible when intention leads the process.

Less waste. More responsibility. Homes that feel better in every sense of the word.

That is organization done right.
